In an effort to individualize this pattern I have made a few blocks differently.  the challenge will be to now make them fit in the pattern layout suggested by "Just Takes 2"

Are you making your own "Just takes 2" ?

This feathered star is my favorite.  Why not show us what you are working on over at WIP Wednesday ?Happy Sewing, Kim

Crazy Mom Quilts

 LOOK.....My new book arrived
I've been looking forward to this book and yesterday it arrived :0).  I'm a long time admirer of  "Crazy Mom Quilts"  blog with all its tutorials, free patterns and good design.  I've made many quilts, including doll quilts, from Amanda Jean's blog so I thought it would be wonderful to own her book.
I am not disappointed!  Lots of great ideas , projects and improvisational work.  I highly recommend this one :0).   Congratulations Amanda Jean along with your co-author Cheryl Arkison.

BASICS....what's it all about?

"White baskets"

Quilted by Jackie
Have you heard of  BASICS?
I didn't either until my friend Victoria
( Bumble Beans Inc)  told me about it.  Look at all the good that has come from Victoria's efforts :0).   This top was recused from a friends flooded basement, I finished it, and Jackie     (Canton Village Quilt Works) donated her quilting.
Now the quilt is on it's way to a new home in the Bronx.
I hope you you have a quilt you can donate to families starting over too.

Does art inspire your quilts?

" Tiger Rug"
Living in the Hudson Valley gives me plenty of opportunities to visit college art shows.  Recently I attended  one  at the Marist college art center.
This piece really talked to me, it is done on Tyvek of all things.

The Farmer's Wife

Large basket of blue scraps left over from "Orca Bay" by Bonnie Hunter

The Farmer's Wife by Laurie Aaron Hird
I've learned that I am much more likely to get through a project if I sew with a group.  I can't decide if it is because I enjoy the company or if I am competitive.  Either way, I was delighted when Bonnie Hunter pointed out that Randy D. was having a "sow along" ( farmers wife... get it?), using Laurie Aaron Hird's book " The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt".
As wonderful as this book is there are no measurements to follow only the templates that get printed from the CD included in the book.  Randy has taken the templates and gives all the measurements :0)!  I also love using my Marti Michell templates, so now that I know the size of the pieces I can easily make the blocks.  Could I have figured this out myself?  Of course, but now I have a group to sew with!

Want to join in?  Randy is making it real easy with just 3 blocks twice a month.

Happy Sewing, Kim
I write in my quilting books adding notes I want to remember like the starting date

the first 6 blocks

all blocks finish at 6 inches
