Japanese X

curved sewing lines

Cute little boy fabric for the backing

I finished up this  little  44" X 52" scrappy madness, putting cute baby fabric on the back  helps soften it a bit.

Too Scrappy

Japanese X block
Sometimes I wonder if scrappy is just too much. Does it come off  as a better quilt if it has a unifying color
instead of just randomly picking scraps and sewing them together?  What do you think?
I started these awhile ago then jumped into Scrap  attack  but when I put this little quilt up on my design board to have a look........ well it might just be too much going on!  I think it is hard to see what the block started off to be. So I think I am going to stop here and quilt it for a baby quilt.  Time to move onto the next project.

I finished binding this quilt recently even though it was pieced back in Nov. for my Quiltmaker "Scrap Squad" assignment.   Debby Brown did a beautiful job quilting it for me.

Ho Ho Ho

pin basting

This little table topper is completely inspired by other peoples blogs, I'm  sorry I can't find the url of this Ho Ho Ho quilt but I started it a year ago.

(Kathie found the url for me to share from "fun with Barb and Mary" )

The H's and O's are nine patch blocks.  The quilting is inspired but not as well done as the quilting I saw at
" Life under quilts" but it is my first try :0).  Also, this is my first attempt to machine apply binding from
"Crazy Mom Quilts"  tutorial too.
Go see what every one else has finished over at Finish it up Fridays with "Crazy Mom Quilts" .

Blogger BOM #5

block #5
Blogger BOM is up to block five.
This month's designer is John Adams.
One block a month is my kind of sew along :0).
Happy Sewing, Kim
I can see that this block would look better without a patterned background.

Which layout?

White in the corner block

Or red in the corner block?
Which layout should I use, I can't decide. What do you think?  These blocks are 10.5 inches unfinished and will make a little table topper to commemorate " Infinite Variety Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts".  I'm trying to have it finished before the March anniversary comes around.

Happy Sewing, Kim
 P.S.
I learned how to make this block from Tonya :0) , she has a super easy tutorial on her blog.

Mini Quilt

Before I did full size quilts I  used to make mini quilts.  Over the holidays I made a mini quilt
following along with Temecula Quilt co.  , I could not resist :0).
They call it the "Twelve days of Christmas" and sent a clue to my email each day of the little mystery.  I used the fabric I won from Kate Spain called "Terrain" to follow along.  Each day used the number of pieces of fabric for the twelve days of Christmas in a 3.5 inch block.  So the 1st day has one piece of fabric and the 12th day has twelve pieces.  Very fun and easy, it is still online if you want to make one.
I think I'll share this over at Lily'squilts too :0)

Happy sewing,
"Twelve Days of Christmas"
Might as well use this on finish it up Friday over at Crazy mom Quilts too right?  Stop by so you can visit lots of blog with finished projects too.......why not show yours?

Making progress on Orca Bay

My progress

Yesterday Bonnie Hunter revealed her Orca Bay mystery!  Now if I had finished more of the clues I could have put it together, but I had to work with the pieces I had .  Then I made a row of flipped blocks so had to resew those.  But I'm really happy with my progress so far and look forward to finishing this quilt in the next few weeks.  Thank you Bonnie!  Every year Bonnie does a free mystery quilt!  It is not too late for you to start this one too.  Happy New Year!
