Dump and sew
Beth has a challenge, on her blog, to make a quilt by dumping out a pile of scraps and sew them together. Check out the linky party over at Beth's of the dump and sew quilts.....some are amazing! |
I used some small scraps too. Don't over think it just grab a scrap and sew. |
I started with this pile of scraps that I won from Randy and made the small quilt, it's going to sit for a while before I decide how to finish it. Any ideas? Add a border? Can I get a whoop whoop for my efforts? I'm gonna try by posting this quilt over at Sarah's :0) come on over and link up. Happy Sewing to you all while I'm away with Gwen Marston at her Beaver Island quilt retreat. |

Zigzag quilt revisit
I decided not to add a border to this quilt but to add another row in each directions with some brighter blocks to break up the muddiness of these scraps. Stay tuned :0). Happy sewing, Kim
I'm linking up with Judy to show my progress, stop by and see all the other beautiful quilts.

Friendship
Have you met a special friend online from your quilting community? I've met many but none as sweet at my friend POKEY :0). I think she looked me up years ago because we both have POKEY in our blog names, but ever since then we have been emailing and blog visiting nearly every week.
Yesterday I received a surprise quilty gift! Now how did she get so much love in one little box?
Thank you so much Pokey for making my day and sending all these terrific treats.

Salley Mavor
Salley Mavor signing her books. |
To see more of these images look at Salley Mavor's blog, her work is just amazing!
Not only is each bird life size, but the background twigs are made of felt covered wire complete with embroidery that look like lichens and bumps adding texture that bark really has. It was just wonderful to be able to see these birds in real life.
I got to see Salley Mavor at the Mahopac Library this week! She gave a wonderful talk about her craft starting as a child. She credits her parents for allowing her to make as much mess doing art as she wanted and for creating " a home full of art, music, and dance".
She said something that really touched me as a someone who also loves to sew and create.
"I need to do this creative work it is so tied to my well being; I just have to do it!"
Do you ever have time when you can't sew or create? I have a physical yearning to get back to it when I have to be away from my sewing machine. I really understand what she is saying!
Needless to say I am a huge fan!
Salley took the time to talk to each person that wanted to ask her a question, or to have a book signed. She drew an adorable picture in her book " Pocketful of Posies" for me to give to my granddaughter.
I hope you take sometime to visit her blog and look at her lovely stitchery .
