Jackie's blogger of the month

Jackie had this great BOM with blocks designed by a different blogger each month, some bloggers you might recognize.  Well after starting it, moving and finding it again I am happy to say I have the top
finished :0).  The free patterns are still available on her blog, just hit the Jackie link.

Now to  quilt  it.

Matching doll quilts

My girlfriend gave me some fatquarters this summer  so I cut them all up into 1.5 inch strips.

I found a nice bright fabric to use as the center squares and made some
log cabin blocks.

Backside of of one of the quilts

Now these are all ready for my girlfriend to take to her adorable little granddaughters who love to play baby dolls together.    And since this is the only thing I finished this week I will link up with Amanda Jean to show them off :0)..........  Happy Sewing, Kim

Doll quilt swap

I enjoy belonging to a doll quilt swap online, here is information if you'd like to join this group.

This is the doll quilt I received this month from my swap partner Diane in Minnesota, the
theme this month is "nine patch".   Diane made me a disappearing nine patch in lovely  shades of pink and violet then machine quilted it, it is pretty darn cute isn't it?

Finish it up Friday

I enjoy looking at Amanda Jean's  blog especially on Fridays when everyone links up there are so  many  completed projects to see from her linky party.   It is even more fun when I have something to add!  Yeah for me!  A finish this week of a scrappy quilt made from left overs from a project I made before my granddaughter was born and this quilt is now for her 5th birthday.

Pin basting

I've got my medallion top all pin basted ready to quilt, now I have to decide how I'll quilt it.
Since I am new to machine quilting this is always the hard part for me.  I am calling this my Diamond Jubilee quilt since I am celebrating my 60th year.  This is a sew along done by Lori and Randy and you can see more of the tops on their blogs.  Happy Sewing, Kim

Sew Along

I'm making some progress on my Lori and Randy medallion sew along.  I've added my initials and the year
along with a few colorful birds......next comes some flowers and leaves.  I've gotta stick with this and
get all the cut out bits machine appliqued down....wish me luck.

Just One Slab

Have you heard?

red scraps

Lots of memories in scraps, I'm so grateful I have not lost them to a flood.

It was so much fun to make a slab that I made two :0).
Cheryl Arkison co-author of " Sunday Morning Quilts"
is collecting "slabs" to make quilts for the victims of the Calgary
floods.  Can you imagine losing all you own in a flood?

All you have to do is make one and mail it  to Cheryl, all the
quilt making will be done in Canada by volunteers.

I hope you can help by making "just one slab" into a 15.5 inch block.

Up to date on the sew along

I got all my pinwheels blocks in place, since all the edges are bias I had to be careful not
to stretch them or pull them out of shape.  Do you think the medallion police will get me for having my vase off center?  UH OH.
Even though I don't have a design wall yet I linked up over at Design Wall Monday why not come have a peek at all the projects :0).

Lori is having a linky party if you want to stop by and see the how the other medallions are coming along.

Sew along part 2

How did I make these perfect  pinwheel blocks without cutting one triangle?
It's a new trick I learned from Lori who learned it from this You tube Video made by Jenny
at the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

What did I change to make it even faster?  I matched up all  40 of my 3.5 inch
squares into pairs then ran them through the machine with a 1/4 inch seam allowance
chain style  on one side at a time.  After all all four sides of all 20 pairs were sewn together I  cut them into quarters on the diagonal just like directed in the video.  Give it a try :0)
( so instead of doing one pair at a time and going around the perimeter I just quick ran them
through chain style)

What fun :0), now to add all the new blocks to frame up my  center applique block.
It's not to late for you to join  Randy and Lori's sew along........heck they are off
at quilt market having a great time and won't post another set of directions until next
week.

Kim

Wine bottle cover

We are going out to a friends birthday party tonight, now I always know what to take
as a hostess gift for a woman but men are a little more puzzling to me.  Last night I whipped
this up for the party :0) to cover a delightful bottle of wine from Chile.  Happy Birthday Richard!

Okay so it isn't a finished quilt but it is a project I finished this week so I am linking up with Amanda Jean :0)!

I've been sewing :0)

Lori and Randy are having a sew along and I thought it would be a good first project to do in my new half set up sewing room :0) because I've been itching to stitch. You can come over and see what others are doing on the sew along here on Lori's blog.

I've never tried machine applique  until this project so it is not a work of art but a darn good start if I don't say so myself :0)
I finished it just in time to link up over at WIP Wednesday why not drop by and see what everyone is up to ?

I joined a new group

Sea Trail Grandmas

I joined a new group that makes baby gowns for premature babies in our local community.
So far I have made 5 of these gowns, a teddy bear and a snuggy for a tiny baby.
Have a look at their blog and see all the good work they have done over the years.
Next, I'll be looking for a quilting guild to join in coastal North Carolina.

Yesterday the sun was warm and weather nice enough to take my brother for an outing, sowe went to one of the many historical areas in his county.  He can't drive for 6 weeks and is only 11 days
post-op.  He is having good days and bad days but since he nearly died in December he mostly
happy he is having any more days at all.  Life is good :0)
