then stand there on the horse watching traffic Why? Imagine how much it cost to take care of these animals. I wonder how many there are on the force? |

I lived in NYC as a child and they have always had police officers on horseback. I think it is because they can maneuver within the hoards of traffic easily. If you flew into NY you will know it was a sea of cabs when you came out of the tunnel into the city. It can be mayhem and the streets become a parking lot at times.
Living in Bklyn as a child there were police on horseback. The officer would stop and let us pet the horse. An experience growing up in NYC project.
They must still serve a purpose.
